Herbs

Herbs

Before the invention of common medicine, people used herbs to treat diseases, sickness, heal injuries and stay healthy. People used flowers such as lavender and calendula to make a face mask that nourishes your face and keep it looking healthy. Herbs can be used to balance out your diet and keep the blood pressure down. Some examples of cool herbs are:
Anise Hyssop (Agastache foeniculum)Image result for anise hyssop
Infused leaves can alleviate the symptoms of coughs and colds. They can be used as a compress to soothe fevers and headaches. Add it to foot bath to treat Athlete's Foot, an itchy foot fungus.

St John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum)
An infusion of the plant can be used to soothe anxiety and nervous tension. A mild tablet can help with depression and OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). Always consult a doctor first, though!Fun myth: if you tread on St John's wort after sundown you will be swept off the ground by a magic horse that will charge around until sunrise and then deposit you on the ground. - apparently.

Eyebright (Euphrasia Officinalis)
Eyebright is famous for treating eye problems including slowing down age-related weakness. Eyebright can also reduce mucus discharge during colds and flu. Apparently, it can reduce memory loss.

- Do you think you’d need or want to use any of these herbs? Explain.
- Do you know any thing else about herbs? What is it?
- What is your opinion about herbs? Are they useful, boring, interesting…?

  1. I think that the herb I would want to use is the Anise Hyssop. I think that it is a very fascinating herb and would be very helpful when you are sick. It is a good natural herb to help you recover from a cold, flu and fever. Then you do not have to use a weird chemical medicine.
Herbs are great for a number of things. Some types of herbs are delicious and are a burst of flavour on various foods. Some are, rosemary, dill, or parsley. They also help with many different sicknesses and wounds.
In conclusion, I think that herbs are very useful and are great natural medicines. Herbs are much better to use than factory made medicines that have all sorts of strange things in them that nobody knows what it is. I am glad that people have jobs of studying herbs and finding out how useful herbs can be.

  2. I would probably would not use any of these herbs because I have no problems. Although my sister would like the myth about the saint johns wort because she loves horses. I also love tiny little bits of basil on my pizza,I love pizza! Every other herb I do not like.

I do not know any other herbs or any myths.

Herbs are useful but I think there boring I am sorry if it hurts any of your feelings.

  3. I think the herbs that would be the most useful to me are the Anise Hyssop and the herb Eyebright. The reason I think the Anise Hyssop is useful is because I am an athlete and I do get Athlete's Foot very often so, if this herb can help with my problems than I am in!I also think Eyebright is useful because it apparently can reduce memory loss, so that gives me less of a chance of having memory loss.
I don't know much about herbs but I would like to learn more about it because herbs seem interesting. The only herbs I know about are the ones I cook with like basil, parsley, thyme, oregano, chives, rosemary and many more!
My opinion about herbs are that they are very interesting and after reading this piece I know that herbs are more than just a plant. Also, I know that they are tasty, flavorful and delicious.

  4. If I could use one of these herbs, it would probably be the St. John's Wort. Sometimes I feel very anxious and it would be nice to have some of this in tea, and then feel a little bit more calm. Another one that sounds great is the Anise Hyssop. I hate fevers and it would be amazing if I could feel soothed after feeling really gross and disgusting. Also, something to keep in mind HotdogDotme, is that not everything in that book is true. Some herbs might not be as useful as the author of the book says. Not trying to be a downer or anything, I just don't want you to be disappointed if you buy one these herbs sometime and it doesn't work how you thought it would.

I don't know any crazy myths about herbs and haven't read any cool fancy herb books like you have, but I do know that my father uses herbs all the time when he cooks. By the way, my Dad's food is always AMAZING. But anyway, he has this special holder for his spices/herbs and there is a round slot for every bottle. The holder is circular, and you can spin it to find the herb/spice you want. If you understood anything I just explained, then you would know that the holder is very useful. I absolutely LOVE it when my Dad puts rosemary on chicken, basil on pizza and garnishes fancy dishes. If I don't know many healing herbs, I do know many cooking herbs. I could name like, A LOT of herbs but I think it would be boring for you guys to read a long list of herbs.

My opinion is that herbs are not magical healing items, but garnishes and things to spice up the flavour on delicious food. Please don't be annoyed that I don't really agree on the special herbs thing, because you asked my opinion and I'm just trying to answer honestly. Herbs are great. Cilantro is my personal favourite. People think it tastes like soap, but I think they need to go to the taste bud doctor. Just kidding! They can think what they like. I use cilantro as a replacement for lettuce on tacos. I also put it in salad and eat it by itself. I think it is just some sort of weird addiction I have developed. I kind of wish that cilantro could soothe all sickness, make your skin perfect and make you feel happy and optimistic. That's a weird wish, but if it came true I would be the most healthy perfect person in the world. Sorry, I like to make these weird, kind of strange thoughts, and then say them out loud!

  5. The one I would choose is the Anise Hyssop because when you get a cold or a cough and fevers.

I do not like herbs, only on my food. Like Feterkäse with dill and pizza with basil. I do not know anything about herbs - so don't ask me.

My opinion about herbs is that they are boring because I don't why, I guess I just don't understand them!

  6. If the fun myth about the St. John's Wort is true, I want to ride on a magical flying horse from sundown until sunrise! I would also use the Eyebright to help me with my vision when I get older.

I am very sorry that I can not answer the second question because I know absolutely nothing about herbs, unless it is the awful parsley and other herbs that my mom puts on everything.

I think herbs are absolutely awesome and interesting because they have myths and they can also heal people. If you know anymore myths about herbs could you please reply and tell them to me?

  7. I think I it'd be useful for me and my family to use herbs! I think the two most useful herbs for my family would be Eyebright and Ansie Hyssop. First of all, Eyebright would be good for my family because both me and my dad don't have the best eyesight.
My dad is pretty much blind! It would help with both my dad and my eyesight! I also think Ansie Hyssop would be good for my family because you said it helps with headaches and helps with coughs and colds, which my family gets a lot.

Sadly, I don't know anything about herbs, only the ones that my mom uses in the kitchen. The only herbs I know of and really love is rosemary and basil. My mom uses those two herbs a lot. I don't know anything else!

I think that herbs are super useful I think that it is good that some people know how to use healing herbs.
